Pediatric Unit 44 Renovation

Child-centered inpatient environment

UF Health's pediatric unit renovation strengthens the system's commitment to safe, compassionate care within a modern, supportive environment for patients and families. The unit now features private patient rooms with en suite restrooms, updated nurse stations, and upgraded medical and IT equipment. These improvements support children receiving specialized care across ENT, neurosurgery, orthopedics, oral and maxillofacial care, pediatric surgery for burns and trauma, plastics, transplant, and urological procedures.

The renovation emphasizes a bright, welcoming design inspired by Florida's natural landscape. Nature-based materials and graphics provide calming focal points throughout the unit, helping reduce stress and promoting healing for patients and families. Each private patient room includes an entertainment package, space for personal gaming systems, and a dedicated family zone. These features give patients and caregivers more control over their stay and provide options that support healing.

Shared activity areas offer age-appropriate spaces that promote play, learning, and social connection. The toddler activity room encourages tactile exploration and interactive engagement through cheerful graphics, hands-on features, and projection elements. For older patients, the team room functions as a flexible, multipurpose space with large monitors, audiovisual capabilities, color-changing lights, and integrated speakers that create a relaxed lounge environment.

The project also improved staff and support areas with new lounges, offices, and an updated lobby, creating efficient, pleasant workspaces that strengthen clinical care delivery. Unit 44's completion marks the first phase of a larger renovation that includes Unit 45, scheduled for completion in 2026, further expanding private rooms and family spaces.

This renovation reflects UF Health's commitment to delivering safe, compassionate care, advancing pediatric services, and fostering an environment where children and families feel supported throughout treatment.
