UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital Celebrates Renovated Unit 44

UF Health and Flad recently celebrated the completed renovation of UF Health Shands Children's Hospital Unit 44 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The upgraded space features private patient rooms providing specialized care for children undergoing ENT, neurosurgery, orthopedics, oral and maxillofacial, pediatric surgery for burns and trauma, plastics, transplant, and urological procedures.

With the reopening of Unit 44, renovations are now underway for Unit 45, which is scheduled to be completed in 2026. The floor-to-ceiling renovation of the two 15,000-square-foot pediatric wings will convert all patient rooms into private rooms with en suite restrooms and create additional family rooms, including the newly opened Flad Architects Family Lounge. In addition, the renovation establishes an updated lobby and new nurse stations.

The renovated spaces feature a bright and welcoming design, reflecting Florida's natural landscape with nature-inspired materials and graphics. Along with improved patient room layouts and upgraded equipment to support compassionate care, these design elements will help reduce stress and promote healing.
