I enjoy improving the healthcare environment for patients and staff — light-filled, easily navigable, calming. It's gratifying to plan a space that is easy to work in and doesn't leave patients and visitors emotionally and physically drained.

Healthcare Planner

Curtis spends a lot of time contemplating a hospital's function, knowing that any proposed solution can either facilitate or hamper its operations or mission. One of his key roles is ensuring that each new facility and its individual departments are organized as efficiently as possible. Doing so has many benefits, from reduced operational cost to functional coherence to increased availability of the care team to patients. Reining in a runaway floor plan also helps healthcare systems retain scarce dollars to bring a higher-end aesthetic to the more-compact facility, leading to improvements in patients' well-being.
