Torrey Heights Campus Longlisted for 2 Archello Awards
The Torrey Heights research campus is included on the Archello Awards 2025 Longlist for both Laboratory Building of the Year and the Architecture & Concrete Award. Torrey Heights is one of eight projects in the running for the Architecture & Concrete Award and joins another Flad project, Healthpeak Vantage, on the list for Laboratory Building of the Year.
Over 1,000 projects were submitted for the international awards. The longlist will be narrowed to the official nominees for each award later this fall, and winners will be announced in December.
Flad master planned the 10-acre Torrey Heights life science campus. It is comprised of three thoughtfully designed, state-of-the-art scientific workplaces and an amenity building totaling 520,000 square feet, offering top-tier leasable space for biotechnology firms in San Diego.
Providing exceptional views of the Pacific Ocean and its surrounding natural landscape from every point on the site, Breakthrough Properties' Torrey View Development works in tandem with its environment to express its own character while echoing the site's layered geologic formations in its coffered façade.
Composed of highly articulated, unitized glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) panels, the facility's envelope emphasizes depth and texture to create its signature look. The neutral-colored GFRC panels give the appearance of changing color and texture as they interact with sunlight at different times of the day and year.
