On the island of St. Croix, plans are underway for a beacon of resilience and hope. The future Gov. Juan F. Luis (JFL) Hospital and Medical Center will replace St. Croix's only permanent hospital after it was damaged by hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, filling a significant long-standing community healthcare need.
Designing the 482,000-square-foot replacement hospital has provided the opportunity to reimagine healthcare in the USVI. Recognizing the hospital's role as a community resource beyond providing healthcare, the design team collaborated with territorial and hospital leadership to engage a wide range of stakeholders in the design process.
Join Flad at the EDRA56 Conference as we discuss the project's unique challenges and opportunities, from establishing a temporary hospital to designing state-of-the-art spaces to attract specialists.
Presenters will share challenges and collaborative strategies the design team has implemented while designing the new hospital. Once complete, the hospital aims to become the premier healthcare provider on St. Croix and a symbol of permanence and community for the broader USVI territory.
