Clemson University's new College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) was designed with the site context in mind. This agrarian district is surrounded by the managed forests that are part of the university's land grant legacy.
At the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Southeast Regional Conference, Flad's Chuck Mummert will be joined by project team leaders from architect-of-record LS3P and landscape architects Surface 678 to lead a presentation about the planning and design of Clemson's CVM.
The new campus, comprised of six new buildings, pays homage to the site's legacy while also carrying elements that connect it to the university. Managed as a collaborative process between multiple stakeholders, the design of the campus landscape respects site topography, preserves natural landscapes, and enhances outdoor quality and connectivity through strategic biophilic strategies.
Learning Objectives
- Comparing the impact of campus planning on and off an existing campus context. Understanding the holistic process from early strategy through site planning, permitting, and construction.
- Understanding and working with the site and its features including topographic conditions, soils, and context for circulation, accessibility, site drainage, and stormwater mitigation strategies.
- Creating wellness through social ecosystems, integration of the exterior and interior building environment, opportunities for community, and diversity of space types.
About the ASLA Southeast Regional Conference >
The American Society of Landscape Architects Southeast Regional Conference explores how design and stewardship can work hand-in-hand
to create a lasting, positive impact across communities with landscape innovation, sustainable infrastructure, and regional collaboration.
This year's conference theme, Rising Together, speaks to the power of collective action in the form of municipalities, designers, engineers,
ecologists, developers, and community leaders coming together to shape resilient, future-forward landscapes.
