Flad will lead a tour of the award-winning, multi-tenant biotech campus Torrey Heights at the AIA National Conference on Architecture and Design in San Diego.
Offering exceptional views of the Pacific Ocean and its surrounding natural landscape from every point on the site, Torrey Heights works in tandem with its environment and echoes the site's layered geologic formations in its coffered facade. Steeply graded window panels establish Torrey Heights’ dynamic, tessellated signature envelope. Composed of highly articulated, unitized glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) panels, the envelope emphasizes depth and texture.
Supporting innovation and collaboration, the campus provides three thoughtfully designed, state-of-the-art scientific workplace facilities and an amenity building, totaling 520,000 square feet. Flexible, daylight-infused interior floor plates maximize energy efficiency.
Tour Learning Objectives
- Learn how early integration of generative computational tools can guide master planning decisions that align with site constraints, long-term goals, and tenant flexibility.
- Explore how connected open spaces, intuitive circulation, and centralized amenities have created an activated, people-focused campus environment.
- See how planning for adaptability in lab and office infrastructure can ensure facilities remain relevant as scientific and workforce needs evolve.
- Gain insights into how design strategies such as visible amenities; curated arrival experiences; and flexible, well-programmed environments can enhance campus marketability and attract tenants seeking long-term value.
