At the inaugural VetEd AAVMC conference, Flad will join the University of Wisconsin-Madison for tours of UW's recently renovated and expanded School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM). Also during the event, Flad's Rachel Nelan and Jessica Thompson will speak about how the project transforms the clinical practice and student experience.

Flad designed the original UW SVM building, which opened in 1983. As the school continues to grow and the space needs of veterinary medicine have evolved, the university partnered with Flad to design a three-story addition, which connects to the existing clinic. The entire first floor is dedicated to a new small animal hospital and emergency care department.

The expansion introduces modern clinical spaces and technology upgrades, designed with a heightened consideration for comfort, safety, and service to all humans and animals occupying the space. Together these design strategies converge to achieve and honor the project's original vision statement: to create a functional, warm, welcoming, and nurturing environment that advances human and animal health with science and compassion.
