Barbara Lee Center for Science and Allied Health

Inspiring campus community

Flad Architects produced bridging documents for the development of the Center for Science and Allied Health, which will be a key component and defining element for the Merritt College campus. Positioned on a dramatic site above San Francisco Bay, the building embodies ambitious goals for programs in life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, and allied health.

Once completed, the building will house all of the college's health and science related programs; classrooms featuring wet, dry, and simulation labs; and "learning neighborhoods" that each include faculty and administrative offices and instructional support spaces. The facility will also accommodate new instructional programs including microscopy and genomics. Designed with sustainability in mind (LEED Gold) - acoustics, lighting, indoor air quality, daylight, and views all enhance the educational experience.

Completing the courtyard and creating a strong campus core, the center will both welcome the public and provide a safe, healthy, accessible, and inspiring environment for students.
