Building 10

Strategic scientific interaction

When this Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company embarked on a major expansion of its North American facilities, it was not simply to house more scientists. It was to expand science itself – pioneering important research in immunology, inflammation, and cardiovascular disease.

The striking campus features buildings set atop two steep hills with a valley and wetland areas running between. The addition of Building 10 creates a graceful curve reflecting the natural contours of the land. A welcoming entrance provides a gathering place for the research division, offering a café and conference space, in addition to consolidated and centralized administrative functions. A three-story, light-filled atrium connects adjacent buildings and provides a central interaction hub for the scientific community.

The space has been designed with extensive transparency to allow strategic penetration of natural light deep into offices and labs, while utilizing innovative shading and architectural features to provide privacy and reduce glare.
