UW Health Pleasant T. Rowland Transplant Clinic Wins Gold Touchstone Award

The Center for Health Design recently honored the UW Health Pleasant T. Rowland Transplant Clinic with a 2026 Gold Touchstone Award. The Touchstone Awards recognize exemplary use of an evidence-based design (EBD) process in the built environment. Winning projects demonstrate exceptional achievements across the three touchstones of the EBD process: collaboration, evaluation, and sharing.

Flad worked with UW Health to design the 16,000-square-foot clinic, which provides a new home and much-needed space for growth of UW Health's world-class transplant center. An integrated design process, supported by robust analytical tools, evidence-based design, and nimble planning, was used to achieve project goals and effectively rightsize services.

Approximately one year after opening in 2021, a robust POE was conducted. The racetrack clinic layout, with team support spaces centrally located in the core, enables collaboration and efficient workflow processes. The patient tracking boards located throughout the exam room corridor are integrated into the staff's workflow process. Overall, the clinic's visit volumes have steadily increased since opening while upholding high patient satisfaction ratings.
