Healthpeak Vantage Campus Earns Best Project Honors from ENR
Engineering News-Record has named the Healthpeak Properties Vantage campus the Best Office/Retail/Mixed-Use project for the Northern California region. Projects were evaluated by a jury of AEC experts on the ability of the project team to overcome challenges, their contribution to the industry and community, safety and construction, and design quality.
Flad designed the South San Francisco life science research campus, which features two scientific workplace buildings and the Hangar, a two-story amenity building, all three of which are certified LEED Gold. The master plan envisions six buildings totaling more than 1.7 million square feet on the 19-acre life science campus.
Purpose-built to nurture discoveries that will shape the biotech industry, the buildings' stacked, rotated levels with reflective glazing are inspired by crystalline structures and provide a striking view from the street level. Vantage's iconic sculptural massing and distinctive articulation anchors the intersection and front door of the campus with the site's modern aesthetic.
The design of the upscale amenities center takes inspiration from airplane hangars, honoring the area's industrial past and its role as the birthplace of biotech. The double-height lobby provides a large public gathering and conference space that is protected from the elements and connected to the outdoor plaza.
