Shands Hospital Acute Care Unit 6-2 Renovation

Comfort meets functionality

This newly renovated, 17,000-square-foot med-surg unit provides acute care for medical patients in the North Tower at UF Health Shands Hospital. Using a prior, Flad-designed unit as the basis of design, this unit consists of 24 private patient rooms, including two Airborne Infection Isolation (AII) rooms. Advanced monitoring technology seamlessly transmits comprehensive, real-time patient management data to the central nursing station – enhancing patient care, safety, and efficiency.

The design emphasizes comfort and functionality, with a multipurpose room tailored for staff collaboration, inviting family and visitor waiting areas at the unit's entrance as well as a private consult room. The updated elevator lobby design features new finishes and a curtain wall window system along the elevator lobby on floors three through nine.

At the heart of this unit, each daylight-filled patient room features custom artwork, including photographs of Florida's natural landscapes taken by UF Health staff, creating an atmosphere of tranquility for patients, guests, and staff.
