Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

Master Plan

A pathway to the future

The U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) performs breakthrough research to meet the nation's science and technology needs. As a long-term strategic partner, Flad has supported multiple projects at the laboratory, including PNNL's master plan to guide campus development.

The master plan included the assessment of 1,000,000 square feet of existing facilities, the analysis of the ability of those facilities to meet PNNL's needs, and a detailed gap analysis to align the facilities and infrastructure with the lab's scientific vision for the future. This ten-year phased plan enables PNNL to move the lab from aging spaces into a campus with appropriate tools, facilities, and workplace environments.

Topics addressed in the plan included the modernization of campus facilities, increased flexibility to meet changing missions, the fostering of scientific collaboration to enable innovation and productivity, and the incorporation of highly sustainable practices throughout the lab.
