Scientists think about how molecules interact; Sylvia Darr thinks about how scientists interact. A biochemist as well as a licensed architect, she did postdoctoral work in a facility where scientists designed the labs and realized she could improve the lab environment. Sylvia's background has given her a unique perspective on the lab planning and design process, making her particularly attuned to scientists' explicit and implied needs; giving her the ability to translate their requirements into efficient, considerate, and highly functional laboratory design.
It's important to understand the culture of each organization, and support the positive aspects.
Lots of people think that every lab is the same. Perhaps it's subtle, but every lab group uses their lab differently.
A successful design will accommodate these differences.
