Master Planning - Future-proofing for Growth, Change, and Success
ISPE-CaSA Annual Tech Show
Wednesday, February 28, 2024
2:00 - 3:00 pm (EST)
In-Person Event // Raleigh, North Carolina
Takeda's manufacturing site in Covington, Georgia produces plasma-based protein therapies that treat chronic and life-threatening illnesses. The 1.1-million-square-foot campus has been operational since June 2018 and includes offices, quality test labs, warehouse, a central utility building, and cGMP manufacturing. From the start, all aspects of the campus were strategically planned for expansion to eliminate any future disruptions to operations while continuing to support lean processes.
In this presentation, Flad Principal Cole Brunson will join Takeda Engineering Manager Chris Albers, AEI Principal Rick Flock, and CRB Lead Process Engineer Luke Stockhausen to share examples of major future-proofing successes along with challenges and lessons learned now that the Covington site has been operational for over five years and several expansions and process improvements have been implemented.
Key takeaways:
- The importance of coordinating and documenting process flows (materials, people, product, waste, samples) to inform all aspects of a manufacturing campus on day 1 and in the future.
- The advantages of strategic master planning early in design and the benefits of routine updates post-construction.
- How to create a more agile, flexible facility by incorporating pre-investments strategies.
- How pre-investments have helped support Takeda's sustainability commitments.
