UF Health's new 540,000-square-foot Heart & Vascular and Neuromedicine Hospitals have a combined 216 patient rooms and 15 operating rooms. Powered by an on-site cogeneration plant and incorporating myriad sustainable and wellness design strategies, these facilities represent the quintessential example of innovative thought leadership and best-in-class delivery of a highly complex healthcare project.

This presentation, by Flad's Pat Spoden and Chris Qualle, with John Chyz of Affiliated Engineers and Du Meyer of UF Health, will cover the inherent challenges associated with sustainable strategies for complex healthcare environments. Part of the focus will be on exterior systems, and the benefits (scope alignment and coordination) that the design-assist approach brought to the project, as well as staff/patient wellness and owner/collaborator integration with Green Globes, a green building rating system developed by the Green Building Initiative.
