Higher education capital projects are increasingly defined by compressed timelines, requiring alignment between academic and physical planning earlier than ever. In a session at the SCUP Southern Regional Conference, Flad’s Mike Moreland will join Scott Messer of the University of Georgia (UGA) and Andrew Kapusta of Turner Construction to explore the effective planning and design of the UGA Medical School Building. This case study demonstrates how integrated decision-making shifts institutions from reactive project delivery to intentional, coordinated planning.

The team delivered a 93,000-square-foot facility on an accelerated timeline with a clear, deliberate process that mitigated traditional silos with a model that embedded accreditation milestones into design workflows and engaged key team members in real-time alignment sessions. Attendees will gain a replicable framework to reduce stakeholder friction, align diverse teams early, and improve decision clarity.
